PEOPLE :: meet Chris Thorne, Managing Director of the Leckhampton Group!

In his role as Managing Director, his day-to-day focus is to work closely with our dedicated management team to ensure we continue to meet, and to improve our extremely high standards of quality and efficiency in all that we do.

Chris is heavily engaged with business development, and the company’s direction and strategy, and works closely with our wonderful clients and professional partners to develop strong and lasting relationships.

ORANGERY :: great care was taken to preserve a mature vine and make it into an integral feature of this bespoke Orangery we constructed to a Grade II listed property originally built in the 18th Century.

As well as acting as main contractor on this project we also developed and managed the listed building application.

CHARITY :: we are privileged to have joined the Cheltenham Civic Society @cheltcivicsoc as corporate members in order to play our part in the pursuit of promoting high design standards, protecting our built environment and educating on the town’s heritage.

We are great believers in the work Cheltenham Civic Society are doing to preserve and enhance the living environment of our beautiful town and having been the recipient on a number of Civic Awards over the years this only help to enhance the relationship between our two organisations.

Our affiliation will enable us to further achieve our joint goal of preserving some of Cheltenham’s finest and most important buildings, securing it’s heritage and legacy for future generations to enjoy.

SUSTAINABLE & RENEWABLE DEVELOPMENT :: we project

SUSTAINABLE & RENEWABLE DEVELOPMENT :: we project managed the design, planning, and construction phases of this hillside eco build.

The project included the demolition of an existing dwelling and the construction of a stunning new build contemporary property in a commanding position with fantastic views overlooking the spa town of Cheltenham.

Major external excavations into the hillside were required to limit the visual impact on the environment.

Internally the property has been finished to an extremely high standard incorporating a fully integrated audio-visual system, Lutron lighting, underfloor heating, home cinema, gym, and steam room.

Sustainable technologies have also been incorporated into the building including a borehole water source and air source heat pump.

PROJECT UPDATE :: the stonemasons have been very busy at our Cotswold Vicarage renovation project @cotswoldvicarage

💥 raking out the old pointing between all of the external wall stones on two sides of the house, ready for a new breathable mix to be added.

💥 bricked up the window in the boot room, to allow the boiler to be repositioned.

💥 removing the rotten bathroom window to get to the cracked concrete lintel above which, once removed, will be replaced with a stone one.

CONTEMPORARY NEW BUILD :: we acted as Main Contractor on this prestigious development working closely with our client & their design team to deliver an ultra-high end and bespoke property in Cheltenham.

Attention to detail was the key driving factor for achieving the stringent performance criteria demanded while still maintaining a luxury finish.

The unusual shapes and angles of the building required our specialist experience to ensure the tight tolerances of system build packages could be met at a site level when receiving build elements from all over Europe.

We took charge of significant design and build packages within the contract framework including the timber frame, mechanical and electrical systems.

Whitewashed Douglas fir ceiling grids, curved Larch staircase built onsite, micro cement floors, knot free cladding, a zinc roof with no verge, hip or ridge detail and cantilevered fireplaces were just a handful of the bespoke elements that were built to create this truly unique home.

The result is an exceptional quality family home that we and our clients are extremely proud of.

CHARITY :: The Leckhampton Group is extremely proud to support Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust as Corporate Partners in their efforts to manage and restore the vital woodland habitats within the county.

We see this partnership with GWT as critical to our continued commitment to reducing our Carbon Footprint and the overall impact our day to day operations have on the environment.

This is particularly poignant for our joinery operations and by supporting the great work GWT is doing with its various tree planting schemes we are able to further offset against the sustainable timber products @leckhampton_joinery are using in their bespoke joinery and cabinetry projects.

Gloucestershire’s wildlife is under serious threat on two fronts.
Climate change is driving nature’s decline, while the loss of wildlife and habitats leaves us increasingly unable to adapt to the changing climate and reduce carbon emissions. The next eight years are critical in determining the future of our precious wildlife.

GWT’s new strategy identifies three goals to halt and reverse nature’s decline, protect our wildlife and help it flourish. It’s an ambitious promise, and one they will only achieve by working together with communities, landowners, farmers and partners.
